Cat Grooming

Absolutely stress-free and under gentle, safe sedation

One of our most popular services is our professional cat dematting and grooming (no dogs, sorry) of badly matted long and semi-long haired (and even some short-haired) cats such as Maine Coons, Birmans, Persians or just the poor matted moggy who needs a bit of a helping hand staying up to normal healthy cat fur standards.

Some cats just don't seem to be able to keep the silky smooth fur that other cat owners take for granted with no effort at all. We have had many a frustrated cat owner calling us after giving up and losing the battle with brushing their fluffy feline, leaving the owner feeling equally mean whether attempting to brush or just leaving the poor cat with the often quite painful mats of pulling fur.

Vets2home uniquely offer an easy, stress-free - and pain-free - professional grooming performed under safe sedation (your cat is blissfully unaware of anything happening before, under and after the procedure) monitored by a qualified nurse and veterinary surgeon in your own home.

Important note! Emergency Oxygen (O2) readily available at all times if any urgent extra support is necessary-but hardly ever needed when under qualified supervision and careful monitoring.

We only use as gentle efficient brushing as possible - and prefer not to clip (unlike most other Veterinary practices) - unless clipping is especially requested by you of course!

The gentle grooming is performed under injectable sedation in your home so your cat doesn't have to experience neither the trauma of removing the tufts of fur, the transportation stress, spending the whole day at a noisy vet practice nor looking like a shaved lion on top of that.

The sedation we use (and have used for 10 years) is injected like a normal vaccination injection in the back of the neck. The cat will feel very sleepy in about 10 mins and while your cat is asleep, he/she will be under close monitoring and supervision by the Veterinary Surgeon. We use only a very safe licensed injectable drug which is reversed immediately (5-10mins) with another injection once completing the grooming.

"Alfie", Brighton - 1 year old and already very matted in quite a private area!

Our qualified nurse Alex, performs the gentle grooming (over 10 years experience from small animal vet practice). It usually takes about 1 hour from start to end - depending on the degree of matting. After reversing the sedation and your cat has woken up, we leave him/her to fully regain all strength in his/her favourite spot with you and us nearby to pamper and give plenty of TLC.

The reasons behind the actual matting is different for every cat but could be linked to increasing health issues such as arthritis in the spine or other places related to ageing, obesity or just mere laziness. We are obviously able to address the underlying problem from a veterinary angle while sorting out the immediate problem to start with. Most of our patients are able to stay free from matting for a much longer period than normal afterwards.

As an added bonus while your cat is sedated, we usually check, descale and polish the teeth manually hereby leaving them as clean and shiny as possible, postponing the dreaded dental visit - including a full anaesthetic and transportation to a vet practice- for significantly longer.

All-in-all the whole grooming procedure is as peaceful as any pampered fluffy feline could possibly wish for. Just read what one of our most handsome -and feisty- patients Max, the 8 1/2 kilo Maine Coon (and his owner, Mrs. Osgood) has to say below.

Happy Brushing

"Max" -the handsome 4 year old Maine Coon- at the top of his game!

"This is Max, my gorgeous Maine Coon cat. He is clever, funny and loves to play, but doesn't like being groomed! Susan and Alex come to the rescue by visiting Max at home. They get rid of all his tangles, and take care of his jabs in an environment that's stress free - for both of us"!

All the best wishes,
